The company, World Class Lifting, was established to deliver a world class coaching and support programme for elite athletes in Olympic Weightlifting and Paralympic Power Lifting ahead of the Games to be held in Beijing in 2008 and in London in 2012.

In the future it is envisaged that the operations of the company will merge in an appropriate manner with those of the national governing body, the British Weightlifting Association (“BWLA”).

The World Class Programme is funded by a mix of National Lottery and Goverment Exquequer funding and as such World Class Lifting is accountable to UK Sport for how the funding is used.  Further details of how World Class Programmes are funded can be found at www.uksprt.gov.uk/pages/sports_funding/
