The High Performance Centre opened in January 2009 and is a partnership between World Class Lifting and Leeds Metropolitan University and is the main training base for the World Class Weightlifting and Paralympic Powerlifting squads.
The centre is equipped with 6 standard and 1 competition size lifting platforms, and for the Paralympic athletes 4 disability powerlifting benches.
There are over 1000kgs of weights and enough Olympic bars to ensure each platform can be fully utilised.
Other equipment has been kept to a minimum to maintain the lifting area however there are two power rack cages, a leg press and a cable crossover machine in addition to the Olympic weights.
New student accommodation (Carnegie Village) built on the same campus as the HPC means that athletes can stay on-site so increasing recovery time and reducing travel costs. The accommodation is self-catering and is available during term time which means that the athletes can attend camps throughout the year and put into practice their cooking skills.
