IPF World Bench Press Championships Texas, 24th-28th May 2010

First lifter from the WCL squad was Adam Alderman, weighing in at 47.1kg.  Adam finished with a credible fourth place. He competed against lifters in the 56kg class,  which is two weight classes heavier than his IPC weight category, and all of whom wore bench shirts.  Adam has been working hard on improving his technique which was evident when watching him lift on this world platform, as he as he gained eight white lights out of nine from both the referees and jury.  His lifts were 127.5kg. 130kg and 132.5kg.

Following Adam, was Jason Irving lifting in the 60kg class. Irving demonstrated that he is still able to lift against the best bench pressers in the world. Lifting 175kg on his first attempt, moving on to narrowly miss his next two attempts at 182.5kg.  Irving placed fifth again lifting in a t-shirt, with the knowledge that if he had been wearing a bench shirt, he would have been vying for a medal.

Roxanne Luckock was the first of the ladies to lift. Making her first international debut, Roxanne was the flag bearer for Great Britain with the team manager Martin Green. Roxanne weighed in at 46.7kg, and was successful in all three of her lifts, to match her personal best of 75kg. This was enough to give her the world junior bench press title in the 48kg category. Roxanne hopes to build upon this experience for future events.

Following Roxanne, was Natalie Blake in the 52 kg class who demonstrated her determination, who after failing her first lift at 105 kg went on to retrieve the lift on her second attempt. Natalie then increased the bar to a credible 110kg which proved a bit too much on the day. Natalie will be hoping to use this as a platform for her preparation for the IPC World Championships due to be held in Malaysia for powerlifters who have a disability in July this year. An event that Natalie has enjoyed considerable success in and has medalled at previously.

All the above lifters will be competing this weekend in Stoke Mandeville at the IPC British Powerlifting Championships.
