Great Britain Team arrives in Spain

 

Following a nervous 24 hours where volcanic ash looked likely to disrupt travel plans, the Great Britain Youth Weightlifting team have arrived in Vallencia for the European Youth Weightlifting Championships.  Both Zoe Smith and Sonny Webster looked sharp in their first training session, on Tuesday,  in the makeshift training hall which normally serves as a hotel garage.

Zoe lifts in the A group (58kg category) on Thursday afternoon and will face stiff opposition in what is going to be a closely contested final with around five athletes all posting entry totals of between 175-180 kg.  Sonny lifts on Friday morning in the B group and will be looking to lift a personal best to put himself in the top half of the field.
