Jewell recovers to post total
After opening confidently with a snatch of 75kg, Helen Jewell (Ivybridge) then moved up to 78kg for her second attempt, which she was unlucky not to hold. Coming straight back out, she then missed her third attempt at the same weight of 78kg. After a good warm up for Clean & Jerk she opened on 95kg, and with a poor clean by her standards, failed to stand up. Forced to follow herself her second attempt at the same weight saw a very positive clean, standing up easily, but just failing to hold the jerk. Coping well under pressure, her third attempt was her best with a successful lift of 95kg to give a 170kg total and place 8th overall. A disappointing day for Jewell, given her recent training form but looking at the group, if she can deliver her training lifts on the competition platform, she could have pushed for a top six finish.
The last of the British Lifters compete on Friday are Natasha Perdue (69kg, Wales) and Peter Kirkbride (94kg, Scotland), both going after their Home Country and British Records.
