Great Britain Team for European Championships
Congratulations to the following lifters who have been selected for the European Championships in Minsk, Belarus, from the 4th-12th April 2010. This is a significantly larger team than was sent to the Europeans in 2009 when only one athlete lifted and is an indication of the improvements being made by these athletes in the last year.

Due to the fact that the Home Country Championships spanned 5 weeks with the English on the 20th February and the Welsh not until the 27th March, this gave challenges regarding team selection and the different stages of training of the athletes.
Helen Jewell, lifted the qualification standard at the English Championships  and was automatically selected.Â
Joanne Calvino was 2kg off selection total but with a PB at the English Championships is demonstrating progress and was therefore selected.
Natasha Perdue has lifted the selection total in a training test and this was used for selection.
Peter Kirkbride is consistently lifting well in excess of the selection total in training and is currently the best senior lifter in the UK.
Gareth Evans was 6kg off selection total in training test and lifted well at a competition in Wales at the weekend, as he is demonstrating progress he has been given a place in the team.
All other lifters were felt to be too far from the selection standards to be considered.
