Kilmarnock Weightlifting Club Shine at Scottish Weightlifting Championships

The Scottish Championships were  held on 28th November in at Pitlochry there, were 25 lifters who qualified and of these Kilmarnock fielded almost half with a total of 11lifters, 4 female and 7 male.  In the women’s events Kilmarnock and the Palace of Arts Club went head to head,  in the women’s 48kg Stephanie McDiamarid (PoA) was first with a total of 78kg.  In the 53kg class Collete Will (PoA) was first with 95kg total and  Connie England (Kil) was second with 80kg, Kilmarnock’s 14year old Jenna Gilroy lifted well at  63kg to total 95kg, this class was won by Amy Hamilton with a 140kg total.  In the 75kg class Georgi Black (Kil) was first with a total of 157kg. The best female lifter on the day on Sinclair points was Amy Hamilton with Georgi Black in second.

 

In the mens event, Kilmarnock Club athlete Craig Carfray took gold in the 69kg class with 6 out of 6 good lifts,  breaking all Scottish u/18 records with  best snatch of 93kg and a 120kg clean and jerk to give a  total  of 213kg . Next up for the club was Dale Cree in 77kg class where he got 5 from 6 lifts with a 103kg snatch and a clean and jerk of 123kg to give a total 226kg and break the Scottish u18 snatch and total records. The winner of the 77kg class, Graeme Kane is also a Kilmarnock Club athlete and with a series of three  great snatches he took the Scottish snatch record with a final snatch of 123kg,  His clean & jerk went well with  lifts of 145kg and 150kg and after doing a good clean with 155kg he rushed the jerk to finish with a total of 273kg.

The Pitlochry Club took Scottish titles in both the 85kg and 105kg classes. In the 85kg Iain Robertson was first with a 227kg total, and Kilmarnock athletes Kyle Pearson and James Burley both snatched 96kg and clean & jerked 120kg to total 216 kg, with Burley taking 2nd on bodyweight.

Kilmarnock’s last lifters were in 94kg class, first up was Mark England, he snatched 86kg and 113 kg to total 199kg and take  2nd place. Next up was Peter Kirkbride who got 6 from 6 lifts, he snatched 135kg/140kg/145kg then ran through clean & jerks of 175kg/182kg/186kg to total a new pb of 331kg and break British u/23 records and Scottish records, this was a great performance for the club.

Paul Rae (Pitlochry) took the Scottish title in the 105kg class with a 250kg total.

In  the 105+ class,  Tommy Yule unattached  did 135kg /140kg and just missed 145kg in the snatch,  he then clean & jerked 180kg/190kg then missed 195kg to total 330kg and take gold.

The best senior male lifter on Sinclair points was Peter Kirkbride  and best junior Craig Carfray.

All in all this was the best Scottish Championships for a long time, and credit goes to Alec Philips of Pitlochry Weightlifting club for putting on a good competition.
