Good lifting at Powerlifting British Championships
The British Championships for Powerlifting were hosted by Wheelpower and held at Stoke Mandeville. There was some very good performances with a number of athletes setting personal bests and there were two attempts on European Records.
In the women's event Natalie Blake, in the 52kg category, set a new British Record of 105kg, just missing her third lift of 107.5 kgs. Zoe Newson, having equalled her own PB with 75kg, which is a new British record and is 20kg over the British record in the u40kg category, her PB being set in a none IP sanctioned event. Furthermore she then missed 77.5kg and then took a 4th attempt at 78kg which if successful would have been a new British Senior and Junior European Record. Unsuccessful on this occasion it will surely not be long before Newson gets both these records. Most improved female lifter of the competition went to World Class Lifting Talent Confirmation squad member, Roxanne Lucock, who has put 20kg on her total in the last year.
In the men's event Anthony Peddle, just back from injury and lifted well to dominate the 52kg class with a best lift of 135kg. Jason Irving, was best overall male lifter with a lift of 180kg in the 67.5kg class. unfortunately his European Record attempt of 191kg was thwarted by the fact that loaders capable of passing him the loaded bar could not been provided.
There were a personal bests from WCL Talent Confirmation squad members;Â Kyron Duke, Nathaniel Wilding and Jake Norris. Three athletes from Saudi Arabia lifted as guests and this enhanced the competition.
