Smith and Sheard best overall at British Youths.
The competition was held at Crystal Palace on Saturday 9th May, despite being only two weeks after the British Juniors there was still a good attendance with 24 of the lifters who had met the qualifying standard competing. It was great to see commitment from Ray Cavanagh for bringing lifters down from Scotland for the 2nd time in two weeks.
It was a good days lifting and it was pleasing to see the emphasis that is being placed by these lifters on good technique. (Well done to the coaches). Zoe Smith, used this competition as a run out before for the World Youth Championships in Chiang Mai later this month, she lifted efficiently, demonstrating that the changes she is making technically are starting to hold up in competition.  It was also great to see Sunny Webster back on the platform after such a long time off due to injury, he will only get better now as he gets more competitions under his belt. Congratulations Shamsher Shergill who set a British Record with a 101kg Clean & Jerk, and to Zoe Smith and Mike Sheard who were crowned Champions of Champions (based on Sinclair points) A final word, of thanks to Keith Morgan and his team for putting on this event, which takes a lot of time and effort, especially the purpose built platform he had built the night before.Â
